Is there rain in Heaven?
Or is it always VFR?
Can you see for miles around?
Or sometimes not that far?
Of these things I'll ask forever,
Or until I leave this earth.
Then I'll ask you once again
To teach for all your worth.
You've gone on ahead, left me behind,
Not that you had a choice.
You went and left on beck and call
From God's enormous voice.
Please learn from Him all you can
And when I reach the sky,
I'll come find you one more time,
To teach me how immortals fly.
On earth I envy hawk and eagle,
Whose flight is full of fluid grace.
I mount up on my mortal wings,
The cold wind in my face.
I trespass in their silent world,
Drinking in perceived perfection,
Struggling to reach the stars,
Am I heading in the right direction?
All answers now must come from God,
At whose right hand you now sit.
So I offer up another prayer
To whom I have my life commit:
When I look into the heavens
From the lonely cockpit window,
Please give me strength and keep me safe,
Though I know not which path to follow.
Father, Help me feel Your presence
And the wisdom of Your ways,
Please help me keep within my heart
His memory from living days.
When next I pass a gull or falcon,
Please help me understand,
He still looks out for me this day
With those giant hands.
They always were my confidence;
I'd still trust him with my life.
But You are always Father God,
And your decisions shall suffice.
I know not Your reason why,
For taking him away
From those who loved and learned from him;
I'll question every day.
But with Faith in You I'll gain in strength,
One truth forever known;
For even though he's with You now,
I'll never fly alone.
