I recently had a life insurance physical. They say I have proteinuria and will either not offer
coverage or offer coverage at a higher rate. I went to my doctor to have it checked and he referred
me to a nephrologist who I will see on April 26. I understand that proteinuria can cause problems
for my class III medical. Is this true? If proteinuria is a problem, I assume that I have to ground
myself according to 61.53 instead of waiting for the next physical. Correct? Thanks for your help. Mark

Proteinuria, with the exception of benign familial proteinuria can affect you third class medical.
It really depends on what the source of the protein is.

Dr. Roberts, What specifically is the urinalysis part of the 3rd class exam to
determine? I have protienurea, and my nephrologist tells me is is unremarkable
and not progressive. This after a needle biopsy of kidney tissue. Will this be
a concern or issue to FAA?
|
......................................................................
Simple proteinurea is not a problem. But the FAA will want a letter from your doctor
indicating that it is not due to renal or systemic disease.

I had a radical orquiectomy performed because of a testicular cancer which the
biopsy revealed to be pure seminoma. The CT scans showed no metastasis, but
nevertheless I also went through a radiotherapy treatment. I am currently in
excellent health. Do I have a problem to obtain a first class medical?
|
......................................................................
You need a letter from your Dr. indicating the diagnosis, the
treatment rendered, copies of ALL of your medical records and tests. I
doubt you will have a problem, as long as your cat scans are normal.

I am a student pilot and after taking the third class medical, found that a history
of kidney stones is not acceptable. After consulting a urologist, I find that I
still have several. If these can be eliminated, could I then be certificated to solo?
|
......................................................................
As long as the stones are removed, there should be no problem. You will need a
letter from your Urologist indicating full recovery.
