I was flying across the Atlantic one Christmas on
a Greek Charter plane back when ticket prices were
low and airplanes were full. It had been a long
day including battling the seas of humanity
crowding through the airport, but we had finally
boarded the aging DC8.
The passengers were in a
restless though festive mood and the cabin
attendants were rushing around trying to get us
all calmed down so the flight could begin.
One attendant spotted a bag on the floor and said "I'm
sorry sir this row is an emergency exit, you'll
have to put the bag under the seat in front of
you."
After a few moments, she bustled back,
saw the bag was still visible and in a strained
voice said "I'm sorry sir but this is an emergency
exit, so please move the bag out of the way." and
she hurried off again.
On her next trip the bag
was still visible on the floor and she snapped
" You're going to have to move this bag, it's
blocking an emergency exit." to which a
disembodied voice behind me replied " why? are you
expecting this airplane to crash?".
