It was a foggy night at the old Chicago Airport
(now Midway), and several airliners were awaiting
their turn to land.
However, a new controller was being allowed to
handle the traffic, and he was having problems
getting them all lined up properly. He had to
send two around while trying to get the others in
line, and the captains were getting madder by the
minute.
Finally, one captain growled, "This is a bunch of
bullshit."
This completely unnerved the novice controller,
and he shouted, "Who said that?"
A long silence, then came the replies:
"TWA 47, negative on the bullshit."
Chicago and Southern 12, negative on the
bullshit."
American 207, "Negative on the bullshit."
Northwest 33, "Negative on the bullshit."
By this time the controller had become completely
unglued, and was led away in tears, and a veteran
controller, after broadcasting that since all
concerned were in agreement, they would now
proceed with the approaches.
Which he, and they, did.
