A friend of mine (in Sweden) was sent to Zambia, Africa
for a period of five years, to teach the locals how to read and write.
During this time he wrote me long letters telling me how it was down
there and this episode is from one of those letters...
During their time in Zambia, he and his wife met an old
retired colonel from the RAF who chosen to spend the last years
of his life in Zambia because of itīs beauty and wonderful climate.
One night he asksed my friend do him a last favour. He
have written the local authorities and got it approved that when he
dies his ashes will be spread all over the town of Luancia. He asks my friend
if he could do this for him since he is also a pilot.
The colonel told my friend that he can feel that the end is near,
and my friend accepted this honorary task.
Not long after this episode the colonel died.
On the mission my friend used an old Auster aeroplane with sliding window.
When he was flying over the town of Luancia with the ashes of the
colonel in his lap, he opened the lid of the urn.
Then he opened the plane's window in order to "spread the
ashes..." and all of a sudden the complete interior of the plane become grey,
everything become grey!
My friend wrote to me: In the paper today you could read that the ashes of
the old colonel has yesterday been spread all over the town of
Luancia*. Newsclip enclosed
Written in small letters at the bottom of the newspaper:
*)But I am the only one who knows were it is - in the
vacuum cleaner in the hangar...
