While working is Stuttgart, Germany, in 1979 I had the opportunity to ride in
and talk to the crew of the Goodyear Blimp N2A. They related the following
story:
On trips from Spain where they were based they often crossed through Paris air
space. Occassionally they would be asked to hold over certain points such as
VORs, etc. They would then locate that point, stear the blimp directly over it,
turn into the wind and cancel its speed with their engine thrust. Then they would
call Paris ATC and say that they were holding over said point and wait. After a
long pause the puzzled voice of the controller would ask, "Ugh...N2A what
type of aircraft are you?"
