Audacious was the pilot based on Hainan.
Pilot Wang was on a mission
Intercepting Spy-Planes was the reason;
But buzzing aircraft - and confrontation - was his
passion!
Closer, closer he yearned to be,
Mixing slipstream and vorticity.
Then turbulence of great intensity
Affected his controllability.
Now too close to effect a separation,
The interfering airflow formed a grave situation.
Then CHOP, CHOP, CHOP did the Number One Prop!
Thus, torn asunder, the F-8 fell from the Wild
Blue Yonder.
Yes, damage was done to the intrepid E3,
Still, this Ram withstood that incredible blow.
But an upset occurred of unusual degree,
Yet recovery was made at altitude low.
Muscle and courage had led the way
To a safe landing, and that saved the day!
Rekindled in a most magnificent way
Was pride for our Country - so long ago shorn.
For eleven days while held in captivity,
The crew of twenty-four were in solidarity.
For all of those days - Our Pride Was Reborn!
